_Design a Maths Game Competition- PLATINUM

Today during FM lecture, Ms Ng announced the result for the Design a Maths Game Competition. My team and the other team from my class were awarded platinum. There are a total of 2 platinum, 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze being awarded. The prize of platinum award is a $150 Borders Bookshop voucher that comes in form of a card with no expire date. We have the mini prize presentation in the LT since almost all the teams are from FM. Some people might said that the judging is biased since the organiser of the competition is my maths tutor, but I would say it's not. My team did not do things last minute and was always ahead all the other groups. Mr Neo, our mentor, informed us that other teams still haven't come up with their game when our group was already working on the game strategy. I would say Mr Neo is a good mentor. He is close to us as he was our math tutor last year and is rather good at game. He suggested to us to add wild cards to increase the wild element.
Our math game titled SUM21 is as followed:
There are 3 stalks of cards namely big, medium and small.
Big stalk consists of 7,7,8,8,9,9,10,10 and a X card. Medium consists of 4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7 and a X card. Small consists of 1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4. So all together of 26 cards.
This is a vs game. Each player has 2 rows and each row consists of 4 max slots. After the player can draw from any stalk, then put it in either rows. The objective of this game is to form 21. When a row add up to 21, it is cleared, a new row is added and the player scores 1 point. A player wins 1)when opponent cannot put any more card (the card draw will cause the row to exceed or when that card has to be placed in the 4th slot and that row add up to less than 21) or 2)when all the cards are used up and he got more points than opponent. Both players drew when all the cards are used up and both players got same number of points. The X card allowed you to multiply any number to any card or placed in an empty row but the number to be multiplied by is to be specified.
This game requires the intense usage of probability to decide which stalk to draw the card from. There is also a few strategies to kill off the opponent...
It's good to win competition. It gives me more confident to take part in more competition in the future...
